Welcome to Thirsk Hockey Clubs Junior Section.

We are very proud of our growing and thriving youth section and would be delighted to have your child train with us and join our club. Having re-attained the England Hockey ClubFirst accreditation award you can be sure your child will learn the sport of hockey in a Safe, Child Friendly Environment.

We provide equipment and qualified coaches to create a safe, fun and professional environment for children of both sexes aged 6 to 16 years to play and learn the game of hockey in. Sessions run throughout the season on a Wednesday and Friday evenings, except half term holidays. You don’t need to have played hockey before as our sessions cater for all abilities. They just need the enthusiasm to want to get active and find out about hockey. Anyone can come along and try a session before you decide whether hockey and Thirsk Hockey Club is right for you.

During these sessions children attend a training session that is appropriate for their age, their skills and abilities. They are constantly assessed and if it is appropriate they may be asked to train with a more experienced group.

Training sessions, apart from teaching hockey, are used to assess your child’s skill level and all-round ability, usually in preparation for a place in a team or maybe to attend JDC’s, therefore we are looking for commitment, willingness to learn, concentration and any other positive attributes your child may have and the team requires. We are very proud of our training sessions and a great deal of preparation goes into them and the coaches always appreciate good behaviour and a nice thank you at the end!

Several of our coaches also coach within the North Yorkshire Junior Development Centres (JDC’s) and Junior Academy Centres (JAC) and we contribute many youngsters to these.

Thirsk Floodlit Astro, entrance off Gravel Hole Lane, Sowerby
(within the grounds of Thirsk School & Sixth Form College)
