Thirsk Hockey Club has a duty of care to safeguard its members, and its Health and Safety Policy forms a vital part of that process.
The general policy is:
- To provide adequate control of the health and safety risks arising from our sporting activities.
- To consult with all who are working on behalf of the club on matters affecting their health and safety.
- To provide a safe playing environment.
- To provide information, instructions and supervision of coaches and other volunteers.
- To prevent accidents.
- To maintain safe and healthy working conditions.
- To review and revise this policy as necessary.
It is good practice to….
- Have a first aid kit with coaches at all times
- Make sure coaches have access to a mobile phone
- Ensure that emergency procedures are familiarised
- Check that facilities meet safety standards
- Make sure players are wearing appropriate clothing and equipment
- Maintain a register of attendance
- Establish participant’s ability and previous experience
- Raise ongoing concerns with the Welfare/Child Protection officer
