Saturday 5th November saw the ladies second team at home against Otliensians. This was a fantastic game for the ladies 2nds starting very strongly with good forward passing and plenty of movement off the ball. A beautifully worked short corner routine leaving Julia Matyear with loads of space to put the ball past the goal keeper. Otliensians spent most of the first half on the back foot chasing Thirsk, but a break from normal play saw Thirsk muddle in the D and Otliensians managed to score. Again Thirsk were strong throughout Frances Houseman playing well & Jade Beckwith breaking from defence onto the top of the attacking circle passing the ball accurately in to Rosie Lyall who turned and shot effectively with ball again seeing the backboard. The second half saw goalkeeper, Lucy Watkiss confidently save a penalty flick keeping the score 2-1 to Thirsk a well deserved win.
On 22nd October Thirsk Ladies II faced City of York 4 at home with another very young team. Thirsk acquitted themselves very well with solid passes throughout the game. The first half started strongly for both teams but it was Thirsk who succeeded first with a goal scored by Bev Petty from a pass by Emily Thorpe. York fought back and with a deflection from a short corner scored to fetch the score level at half time.
Despite Thirsk having the majority of the possession in the second half it was York who scored next on the break. Thirsk kept up the pace with excellent play between the youngsters Emma Frost, Fran Houseman, Hope Hagen, Kate Lovegreen and Maisie Bradbury. Thirsk were rewarded in the last minute of the game when Petty once again scored with a straight strike from a short corner. The match finished at 2 – 2 and Emily Thorpe was the Player of the Match.
On 15th October, a bright sunny Saturday, the ladies seconds travelled to York to play their Uni team. It produced an unfortunate result, which did not reflect the run of play. Thirsk played hard throughout and passed the ball skilfully and effectively around the York Uni team. Mid field area playing particularly well keeping the ball pushed forward and with constant attacking from the forwards, Thirsk had many chances, but just couldn’t get the ball into the back of the net. York Uni scoring a scrappy goal late in the 1st half with the only goal of the game. Result a lost 1-0.
Player of the match Emma Frost.
A mixture of young and old(er) players travelled to Wakefield on October 1st to play their 6th team. A good strong start for Thirsk, pushing forward with plenty of attacking play. The first goal coming early in the game. A couple of well worked set peices saw 2 more goals from penalty corners.
The second half was a little slower in pace as much as from the heat adding to the early season fitness. Again Thirsk dominated the game with plenty of central space available and again good passing from mid field out to the width. A strong team with new young player Frances Houseman making her debut and rising to the challenge with good strong passing. A well deserved win for the ladies 2nds. Final score 4-0. Goal scorers Clare Goacher & Kate Lovegreen. Captains player Frances Houseman.
2ND APRIL.
The ladies 2nds were at home against Otliensiens.A good game from both sides with end to end play. Sometimes the ball not quite getting through with enough pace and not being picked up early. Plenty of movement off the ball on the right side, ball just seeming not to be passed out often enough to make use of the space created. Thirsk backing off a little in the 1st half but came back out fighting after a stern half time talk and a few position changes. This seemed to do the trick, and play picked up in 2nd half. Final score 3-3.
26TH MAR.
A lovely sunny day saw the ladies seconds start well with good passing and plenty of confidence against Otliensians. Emily Ramsden scoring the 1st goal over the top of the goalie. Play was open with plenty of space created for Thirsk pushing forward throughout the game, plenty of chances just not quite getting past the goalie. Sarah Goacher playing up front in the 1st half having lots of opportunities, just unfortunate not to score. Thirsk winning 3-2 at end of game. Goal scorers Jade Beckwith, Emily Ramsden & Chrissy Stapley-Hinton POM Steph Evans.
The ladies seconds also played on Sunday 20th against Bradford Uni’. A great end to another busy hockey weekend for Thirsk ladies 2nd team, starting well with a goal in 1st few minutes. Lots of good play and passing with plenty of team spirit and attacking play. Bradford Uni fought well, but were unable to keep Thirsk at bay. Thirsk spending most of the game in their own attacking area, good final touches and strong striking leaving the Final score 12-0 to Thirsk. Goal scorers Jo Lightfoot 5 & Steph Evans 7 POM Niamh Bown.
WEEKEND OF 12/13 MARCH.

It was an end to end game throughout the 1st half with 0-0 starting the second half. Thirsk lost momentum a little and the game opened up giving York more space on the ball and letting them get forward more, scoring 2 goals. Leaving Thirsk defeated again. 2-0. P.O.M Emily Ramsden.

12 FEBRUARY
Thirsk ladies 2nds lost to Huddersfield’s 10 players 2-0. The 1st half saw Thirsk very slow and lethargic to get into the game, not playing strongly and letting Huddersfield pass the ball easily around them. Huddersfield scoring their 2 goals in 1st half. In the 2nd half Thirsk came out stronger, but still needing to pass the ball quicker and get stronger, Thirsk holding the score to 2-0.
