A well deserved 5-2 win for Thirsk Ladies 2nd Team vs. Otliensiens 2nd’s on 18 Feb, with great hockey played throughout and some fantastically well worked short corners with strong accurate shots. Good positioning and distribution of the ball, kept Thirsk in total control for the majority of the game. Thirsk’s goals were scored by Bev Petty, Nicky Young and Ellie Watson (3) with Ellie also winning player of the match.
A good win for Thirsk ladies seconds against Colne Valley, with lots of open play and plenty of time on the ball. The result should have been more, but the forward line couldn’t quite get the ball under control, and aimless swings at the ball meant the result stayed at 4-0 to Thirsk. Defence was strong as always and a good save off the line from Charlotte Maxwell, with strong kicking and good footwork from Goalkeeper Harriet Bagley, stopping Colne from scoring. Holly Oldham on her debut with the ladies had a great game with good stick skills and strong tackling.
Pom Maisy Bradbury. Goal scorers: Jo Lightfoot x1, Bev Petty x2, Frances Houseman x1
A cold windy start to the New Year for ladies 2nds, away at Slazengers on 8th January. A very even game throughout, with Thirsk, maybe getting a little more ball possession in both halves. Good strong defensive work from Charlotte Maxwell keeping Slazengers away from the goal whenever they managed to break. The first half ending 0-0 so all to play for in second.
An unfortunate lifted ball meant Jade Beckwith had to go off with a hand injury. Julia Matyear coming on to keep the numbers even. Ellie Watson, had a fantastic 2nd half, and pushed forward with some great tackling and skilful play on the left, getting herself into the attacking D and getting into a good position to score from a reverse hit into corner, just 3 mins from the end of the match. Slazengers were unable to get back into their attacking area, so leaving Thirsk the winners. A good start to the New Year. Final score 1-0. Goal scorer Ellie Watson. Pom Maisy Bradbury
A hard slippy pitch for the 1st time this season at City of York. Thirsk ladies seconds started with 10 players and York took full advantage of an unfortunate slip to score within 1st few minutes. Everyone a little tentative for 1st half, not getting up full speed. Thirsk had a couple of breaks through the mid field, but couldn’t quite get the touch needed to put the ball in the net.
2nd half the ball seemed to get stuck in midfield for both teams, but York pushed through to score another 2 goals on the break. York had a 4th goal disallowed after scoring whilst Thirsk had asked for play to be suspended for goalie kit issues. Luckily only 5 minutes left to end of game as tempers got a little frayed and play a bit aggressive.
York winning with final score 3-0. Pom Maisy Bradbury.
A good game away at Doncaster this week for the ladies 2nds, playing well and making plenty of spaces. 1st goal coming late in the first half for Thirsk from a strong pass in from top of D and a touch on back post. The second half saw Thirsk slow down and became a little muddled at the beginning, 15 mins into second half Thirsk found their spaces again and pushed forwards with 2 great goals coming again from having plenty of open space to run in to. Lauren Jeffrey playing out of normal position played well throughout. Final score 3-0 to Thirsk. Pom Lauren Jeffrey
Ladies second team hosted Lincoln Roses on 26th November. A tough game for Thirsk 2nds playing against top of the league Lincoln Roses. Thirsk found themselves defending from the start and held well in the 1st half only conceding 2 goals, and feeling optimistic for the 2nd half. Unfortunately Lincoln proved too strong and kept pushing forward with good movement and passing. Thirsk managed a few attacks on goal, but were unable to convert attacking play into goal scoring. Lincoln Roses coming out on top with a further 5 goals in 2nd half. Leaving final score 7-0 to Lincoln Roses. POM Emma Frost
Another win for Thirsk ladies 2nd team at home on 19th November against Hull University 3rds. Goals started early in the game and Thirsk managed to attack throughout both halves of the game, having many, many chances to shoot, with Hull Uni leaving lots of open spaces. Great attacking game for Thirsk. Debut for 2nds. Lauren Jeffrey, & Jo Frost. Final score 16-0. This keeps Thirsk in the top three in division 6.

Thirsk ladies seconds were away at City of York on12th November and achieved a good strong win, all playing well together as a team. Lots of young players working hard, and making good, accurate passes, with great movement off the ball. Defence working hard and intercepting the ball early, leaving City of York little chance to get into their attacking area. Emma Frost covering the mid field area well transferring the ball wide and tackling strongly with good effect. Final score 3-1 win. POM Maisy Bradbury & Maddy Phillips. Goal scorers Bev Petty, Nicky Young & Steph Evans
Saturday 5th November saw the ladies second team at home against Otliensians. This was a fantastic game for the ladies 2nds starting very strongly with good forward passing and plenty of movement off the ball. A beautifully worked short corner routine leaving Julia Matyear with loads of space to put the ball past the goal keeper. Otliensians spent most of the first half on the back foot chasing Thirsk, but a break from normal play saw Thirsk muddle in the D and Otliensians managed to score. Again Thirsk were strong throughout Frances Houseman playing well & Jade Beckwith breaking from defence onto the top of the attacking circle passing the ball accurately in to Rosie Lyall who turned and shot effectively with ball again seeing the backboard. The second half saw goalkeeper, Lucy Watkiss confidently save a penalty flick keeping the score 2-1 to Thirsk a well deserved win.
On 22nd October Thirsk Ladies II faced City of York 4 at home with another very young team. Thirsk acquitted themselves very well with solid passes throughout the game. The first half started strongly for both teams but it was Thirsk who succeeded first with a goal scored by Bev Petty from a pass by Emily Thorpe. York fought back and with a deflection from a short corner scored to fetch the score level at half time.
Despite Thirsk having the majority of the possession in the second half it was York who scored next on the break. Thirsk kept up the pace with excellent play between the youngsters Emma Frost, Fran Houseman, Hope Hagen, Kate Lovegreen and Maisie Bradbury. Thirsk were rewarded in the last minute of the game when Petty once again scored with a straight strike from a short corner. The match finished at 2 – 2 and Emily Thorpe was the Player of the Match.
