The Hambleton U13’s ran out deserved winners, having won all three of their matches and not conceding a goal. They opened the competition with a 2-0 win over Harrogate, Francis Houseman opened the scoring early in the match with a thunderous strike. Harrogate could have scored at the other end, but Laura Bosomworth made a great save at her near post. Hambleton grew in confidence and doubled their lead when Holly Oldham’s shot was saved, but Vicky Frost was there to convert the rebound.
The second game with the first York team started with a battle in midfield, Georgina Watkiss and Ilana Bartlett soaked up a lot of pressure and made some good passes to the wide players. Holly Vicky, and Francis had chances, but their goalkeeper made a series of good saves. It was close to the end before the deadlock was broken. Annabel Hill latched on to a cross from Vicky, and scored for the deserved 1-0 win.
The final game with the second York team was a much more one-sided game and Hambleton opened the scoring early as Francis latched on to a through ball from Helena Youmans and smashed it into the goal. Following a good run from Anna Durkin, Hambleton got a penalty corner, and Francis converted this for a 2-0 lead. Anna then got on to the score sheet herself, as she drove into the circle following a nice pass from Helena, and beat the goalkeeper well. The rout was completed when a passing move ended with Annabel finding Francis, and she completed her hat-trick and made the score 4-0 to Hambleton.
Congratulations to all the team, and for the considerable support on the sidelines.

The U13 boys team representing Hambleton at this years Area Youth Games were Luke Brownlee in goal, Will Grainger and Harry Collinson in defence, Dan Lawson centre mid, Joseph Shannon centre forward, Liam Shannon left wing and Harry Goodall right wing. The subs were Conner Watson, Oliver Houseman and James Goswell.
In the first game Hambleton faced Craven, Hambleton started well making some good attacking moves, Dan Lawson distributing the ball well to the forwards. When Craven did break Luke, Will and Harry C coped well clearing the ball from danger. A number of substitutes were made throughout the game as it was so hot. Harry G with Conner and Dan for James. Hambleton had the chances to close the game out but just couldn’t score the game ending 0-0.
The second game against York again the team played well, but a few decisions went against Hambleton which rattled the team and they just could not settle. York took advantage of this and played well applying a lot of pressure which eventually the Hambleton team broke under York scoring the only goal of the game. Hambleton did get the opportunity to get into the York ‘D’ but again just couldn’t score.
Hambleton faced Harrogate in the third game of the day and were pinned back by them within their own 25yd area but the defence of Hambleton held strong and held Harrogate back. On the chances that Hambleton did break it looked like we might score but again that first goal of the day eluded them. Luke, Will and Conner in defence cleared the ball well on several occasions. Again Hambleton fell within the last minute of the game when Harrogate managed to score a goal near the end the game ending 1-0 to Harrogate.
Thanks to all the parents who supported the boys.

2ND APRIL.
The ladies 2nds were at home against Otliensiens.A good game from both sides with end to end play. Sometimes the ball not quite getting through with enough pace and not being picked up early. Plenty of movement off the ball on the right side, ball just seeming not to be passed out often enough to make use of the space created. Thirsk backing off a little in the 1st half but came back out fighting after a stern half time talk and a few position changes. This seemed to do the trick, and play picked up in 2nd half. Final score 3-3.
26TH MAR.
A lovely sunny day saw the ladies seconds start well with good passing and plenty of confidence against Otliensians. Emily Ramsden scoring the 1st goal over the top of the goalie. Play was open with plenty of space created for Thirsk pushing forward throughout the game, plenty of chances just not quite getting past the goalie. Sarah Goacher playing up front in the 1st half having lots of opportunities, just unfortunate not to score. Thirsk winning 3-2 at end of game. Goal scorers Jade Beckwith, Emily Ramsden & Chrissy Stapley-Hinton POM Steph Evans.
The ladies seconds also played on Sunday 20th against Bradford Uni’. A great end to another busy hockey weekend for Thirsk ladies 2nd team, starting well with a goal in 1st few minutes. Lots of good play and passing with plenty of team spirit and attacking play. Bradford Uni fought well, but were unable to keep Thirsk at bay. Thirsk spending most of the game in their own attacking area, good final touches and strong striking leaving the Final score 12-0 to Thirsk. Goal scorers Jo Lightfoot 5 & Steph Evans 7 POM Niamh Bown.
WEEKEND OF 12/13 MARCH.
Thirsk ladies seconds were away to York 4s. Thirsk started strongly attacking Yorks D positively from the start. All players battling hard and working well together. It was an end to end game throughout the 1st half with 0-0 starting the second half. Thirsk lost momentum a little and the game opened up giving York more space on the ball and letting them get forward more, scoring 2 goals. Leaving Thirsk defeated again. 2-0. P.O.M Emily Ramsden.
26 FEBRUARY.
Thirsk ladies seconds fielded a very young team for their game against City of York 4 , most of the team under 18yrs. The girls played fantastically, good passing and movement seeing an early lead for Thirsk. They played strongly throughout the game and showed good fitness and great ball skills. Thirsk winning 4-1 Goals for Ellie Watson x1 Jo Lightfoot x1 Emily Ramsden x2. Player Of the Match – Jade Beckwith. A well deserved win for a very young enthusiastic team.
12 FEBRUARY
Thirsk ladies 2nds lost to Huddersfield’s 10 players 2-0. The 1st half saw Thirsk very slow and lethargic to get into the game, not playing strongly and letting Huddersfield pass the ball easily around them. Huddersfield scoring their 2 goals in 1st half. In the 2nd half Thirsk came out stronger, but still needing to pass the ball quicker and get stronger, Thirsk holding the score to 2-0.
